DIY sled seat. Sewing master class: DIY sled seat. Mattress for sledding with blanket

Winter came. Children switch from bicycles and strollers to sleds. To make them feel warm and cozy, I suggest sewing this original and warm sled seat with your own hands.

For this we need:
  • fleece 1.5 meters;
  • raincoat fabric;
  • padding polyester;
  • threads;
  • Velcro;
  • ruler;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine.

  • How to sew a sled seat with your own hands, sewing master class

    First, we take measurements from the sled and draw a pattern using these dimensions.

    The lower part of the seat can be cut out of raincoat fabric - it will be more practical.

    We cut the seat parts from fleece and padding polyester at the same time.

    We collect and connect the fabric and filling. It is necessary to secure the padding polyester to the fleece - this will make the stitching process easier. I recommend using padding polyester in three folds for the seat, and two folds for the backrest.

    The seat back is first sewn along the outer edge and turned inside out. A padding polyester cut to the shape of the back is inserted into the finished part.

    We secure the padding polyester with stitches, as on the main part.

    We stitch on the seat and back. It is more convenient to quilt the product according to the markings, which are applied with chalk and under a ruler. The appliqué on the back is done over the stitching. You can choose any shape and size.

    Let's take a note. Now you need to connect the parts and sew them on a machine.

    We insert regular Velcro (Velcro tape) into the seam so that its parts, wrapping around the metal parts of the sled, are fixed to each other.

    We choose the following places for Velcro: behind the seat in the center and on the sides, at the highest point of the backrest in the center. If desired, you can sew a ribbon on the sides of the back.

    Now we stitch the perimeter of the seat and sew in the back. The sled seat is ready. Now you can go on a winter walk with your baby!

    With the onset of winter, parents switch their babies to ones that the children adore. To make the child feel comfortable - warm and soft - it is necessary to cover the seat with a sled mattress. Of course, the simplest option is a baby blanket folded in several layers. But, baby, he doesn’t sit quietly in place, so this covering will always move out. It is more convenient to purchase a special mattress for children's sleds.

    Choosing a mattress for a sled

    Blanket-envelope for sleds

    A warm envelope will completely wrap and warm the baby, and in case of snowfall it will not let you get wet. This type of covering is made of soft faux fur, lined with waterproof fabric on top. The envelope blanket is great for little ones who have not yet learned to walk.

    The outer covering of the mattress is made of waterproof material. Special Velcro is provided for fastening, and the presence of a long zipper prevents snow from getting under the mattress and also facilitates the process of placing the baby. This model is also more suitable for a small child, who can, if necessary, be easily rescued from hiding so that he can actively move during a walk. Often the product is equipped with reflective elements to ensure safety when moving.

    Sled insert

    The inserts fit standard sizes for both single and double sleds. The most popular are fur inserts in sleds, which allow the baby to feel especially comfortable. The outer side of the mattress insert is lined with waterproof fabric, so dirt can be easily removed with a damp cloth. Conveniently, the insert can be used both in a stroller and for a swing; When folded, it takes up very little space. The sled mattress with armrests is attached to the sled using Velcro or ties.

    DIY sled mattress

    Craftswomen can easily sew their own mattress for sleds.

    For this you need water-repellent fabric, synthetic padding, and Velcro for fasteners.

    Sleds are the most common type of winter children's transport, which is very popular with both children and adults. Nowadays there are various accessories for sleds in stores, for example, a sled mattress. Depending on the chosen material, it provides softness, windproofness and warmth, which is very important, because during this winter period parents want to protect their child from colds. You can sew such a mattress for a sled yourself.

    To make such a mattress, we will need: fabric (I took raincoat fabric, I bought 110x150 cm of fabric, a little more than half was used), threads in the color of the fabric, padding polyester (or foam rubber) and Velcro for fasteners (you can do without it - with ties).

    We cut out 4 pieces from the fabric: 2 pieces measuring 110x22 cm (for the sides of the mattress) and 2 pieces measuring 50x33 cm (for the mattress itself).

    First, we take the smaller pieces, put both parts together and sew them from the wrong side on 3 sides, inserting ties in certain places (I sewed 2 in the front on both sides, but you can do one in the middle). We turn the product inside out, cut out a rectangle measuring 46x29 cm from padding polyester or foam rubber and insert it inside (if you use padding polyester, it’s better to take 2-3 layers).

    We make the straps (ties) in the same way as shown in the photo.

    Then we take 2 pieces 110x22 cm and also sew them on the wrong side, inserting 3 straps (ties) between the fabric. We cut out a piece measuring 107x19 cm from synthetic padding or foam rubber and also insert it inside the future sides of the mattress.

    Then, we sew the mattress with the sides together, not forgetting to sew the straps in the right places (I sewed 2 more pairs of straps at the bottom back), and sew Velcro onto the straps. By the way, to prevent the padding polyester from rolling up inside, you need to sew it on top with fabric (you can see it in the last photos).

    I got this mattress with sides for a sled. Straps 2 in front, 2 on sides and 3 in back (1 on top and 2 on bottom).
